Our Give’r Community

“We’d like to expand our horizons of giving and are ready for a bit of an experiment.”

Gathering on Fogo Island, 2022

Power to Give has long been known for bringing inspiring people together in special places to make a real impact.

In 2024 we took that further by inviting 20 philanthropists join us in co-creating Give’r.

To start things off, we invited people passionate about blending entrepreneurship with philanthropy.  People excited to share their knowledge and life experiences, while also learning from others.

We were thrilled when so many of those first invitees enthusiastically agreed to join in.

  • Personal connection to giving, and family involvement
  • Focus on impact and effectiveness
  • Community Engagement and Collaboration
  • Rethinking traditional philanthropic models
  • Long-term engagement and learning
  • The value of time

It’s all about creating a trusted philanthropic community that’s excited to collaborate and make a bigger impact. And that begins with building strong relationships.

Power to Give offers optional Give’r experiences throughout the year, and we also encourage participants to connect directly with each other.

  • In person peer-to-peer lunches and dinners (Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto)
  • Guest Speakers (virtual and in person)
  • Virtual sessions on key philanthropic topics
  • In Person Philanthropy Summit – Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge (May 2025)
  • Special one-time events tailored to each Give’r, including concerts, NHL games, charity events, and hands-on volunteering with our charity partners
  • Connection to charity leaders that align with each family’s interests and goals
  • Introductions to experts and influencers who can help guide their philanthropic journeys
  • Opportunities to offer advice, feedback, and mentorship to each other and to our charity leaders
  • Invitations for families to join in inspiring group activities, volunteer opportunities, projects, and events
  • Developing friendships with peers and sharing philanthropic experiences
  • Learning how to build their own foundations and charities
  • Designing a multi-generational philanthropic legacy for their family

In 2024-2025, our first year, Give’r contributions helped support our charity partners’ professional development:

  • 300 charity employees attended 10 virtual training sessions to learn from expert presenters.
  • 95 leadership staff from 71 charities connected at 3 Social Impact Summits.
  • 15 charities brought execs and board members to a multi-sessions series on Governance.
  • Give’r members quietly supported charity partners 1:1 with time, talent, and treasure.
  • Give’r Gathering in Toronto hosted at 13th Round Fight for Life
  • Awi’nakola “Opera in the Forrest” by Paul Walde
  • Churchill Community and Nature Excursion, Manitoba
  • Indigenous Charity Partners Social Impact Gathering, Tofino
  • Sarah McLachlan “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy”, Victoria
  • In person gatherings in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria all year
  • Second annual Philanthropy Summit, May 2026

My most rewarding giving experience way buying a girl an ice cream in front of my young daughter and then seeing her later “give” her own floatie to another girl at a special needs swimming race”
